The Knights of the Maccabees had a building in downtown Fenton until it was demolished in the 1975 urban renewal effort.
The Maccabees were a fraternal group who were deeply interested in selling low-cost life insurance policies to their membership.
Today we found a Fenton murder mystery involving a Maccabees life insurance policy!
In 1895, Frank Annis was tried for murdering his wife and burning down their house to collect on her $1,000 ($35,000 today) Maccabees life insurance policy. After being acquitted in the high-profile trial, Annis moved to Chicago to start his life over.
The insurance claim was denied. He didn't get the money. Documentation is attached for you. Enjoy!
