State Rep. Andrew Fink | Michigan House Republicans
State Representative Andrew Fink, serving as the Republican vice chair of the House Judiciary Committee, has voiced concerns regarding the recent announcement by Michigan's Attorney General to initiate legal action against the state's oil and gas industries. Rep. Fink believes that this litigation is politically motivated rather than focused on the interests of Michigan residents.
"Our state’s legal system does not exist to pursue policy outcomes, and I am fearful that’s what is being done in the case of the attorney general’s proposed lawsuit that targets specific businesses that play a vital role in the daily lives of Michigan families, from daily transit to essential home heating," stated Rep. Fink.
He emphasized his belief that Michigan citizens do not support using taxpayer resources for what he views as politicization, especially given past unsuccessful litigation efforts against Enbridge by the Attorney General's office. "I have a responsibility as a representative to raise our citizen’s voices related to this case that has the potential to harm thousands of hardworking Michigan jobs in the oil and gas industries," he added.
Rep. Fink also criticized previous energy regulations adopted by Michigan, likening them to those implemented in California which he claims have failed on the West Coast. He urged caution against adopting similar political litigation strategies: "We should learn from their mistakes and not adopt California-style political litigation."
