Congressman Tim Walberg, who represents Michigan’s 5th district in the U.S. Congress, issued a statement following a Senate vote that blocked a continuing resolution for government funding. The Senate voted 55-45 on Wednesday afternoon against the measure.
"House Republicans acted responsibly and passed a clean, nonpartisan funding bill 12 days ago," said Rep Walberg. "However, after voting to shut down the government last night, Senate Democrats have decided to continue to keep the government closed through a vote this afternoon. It’s time for common sense to prevail and for Senate Democrats to reopen the government and bring their shutdown to an end.”
Walberg has served in Congress since 2011, after replacing Mark Schauer as representative of Michigan’s 5th district. He previously served in the Michigan House of Representatives from 1983 to 1999. Born in Chicago in 1951, Walberg is currently 72 years old and resides in Tipton. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Taylor University.
