Over 50 million Americans a year suffer from allergies, a seasonal condition that affects their immune systems.
Allergies are the sixth most common cause of chronic illness in the U.S., the American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology said.
“Allergies occur when your immune system reacts to a foreign substance — such as pollen, bee venom or pet dander,” according to the Mayo Clinic. “Your immune system produces substances known as antibodies. When you have allergies, your immune system makes antibodies that identify a particular allergen as harmful, even though it isn't.” Immune systems can react to allergens through inflammation of the sinuses, airways, digestive system or skin.
Michigan ENT & Allergy Specialists specialize in treating patients with both allergies and sinus problems.
“We have a great team at Michigan ENT & Allergy that can evaluate you to improve your health and wellness. We have providers who are excellent in evaluating the sinuses with endoscopy, allergy testing, and CT scans to come up with the best management for your chronic sinus issues,” Dr. Seth Palmer told South Michigan News. “There are many things we can do to treat the sinuses, from using an appropriate nasal/allergy regimen to procedures that can be done in the office and surgical options. It would be our pleasure to see you and discuss how we can improve your sinus symptoms.”
Although some people have symptoms of seasonal allergic rhinitis, also known as hay fever, in spring, summer or early fall, those who have perennial allergic rhinitis are experiencing those symptoms year-round, according to the American College of Allergy, Asthma & Immunology.
