Two serious fires broke out in Fenton 12 days apart

In April, 1954, two serious fires broke out in Fenton 12 days apart. The first damaged the Fenton Lumber Co. and the Michigan Bean Co., and the second burned nearby Lee Lumber Co. The fires caused hundreds of thousands of dollars in damages. Due to the time frame, authorities suspected arson.

Although a pair of teens were held for questioning and a man named Hugh Dean Jr. was charged with arson, the case ultimately remains unsolved.
