Jackson, MI -- On May 22, Congressman Tim Walberg announced the winners of the 2023 Congressional Art Competition for Michigan’s 5th District.
Jourdan Young, a student at Clinton High School in Lenawee County, received first place for her entry, Michigan Summers. It is an acrylic painting that depicts two girls playing in the sand on the coast of Lake Michigan during the summer with a lighthouse in the background. Jourdan’s art teacher at Clinton High School is Ashley Kendrek, and her winning artwork will be displayed in the Cannon Tunnel to the U.S. Capitol Building.
Second place was awarded to Cooper Stewart from Bridgman High School in Berrien County. His entry, Wintry Walk, is a photograph of the walkway leading up to a lighthouse in Michigan during the winter season. Cooper’s artwork will be displayed in Congressman Walberg’s Niles office.
“2023 was truly a great year of submissions, with many pieces showcasing the natural beauty of Michigan,” said Rep. Walberg. “Hard work, creativity, and talent were all demonstrated by many students. Congratulations to both Jourdan and Cooper for producing these impressive pieces depicting our treasured Great Lakes during Michigan's seasons.”
