Washington, D.C. - Congressman Tim Walberg (R-MI) has expressed his opposition to a censure resolution against Rep. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) for her remarks regarding the October 7 terrorist attack and other anti-Israeli comments. In a statement released today, Congressman Walberg emphasized the importance of upholding the constitutional protections guaranteed by the First Amendment.

"While I may strongly disagree with Rep. Tlaib's previous comments, I firmly believe that First Amendment liberties are fundamental rights that apply to all Americans," said Congressman Walberg. "Whether the speaker is on the political left or right, and regardless of the content of their speech, it is our duty to protect and support these constitutional rights."

Congressman Walberg highlighted the need for individuals to address and denounce hateful speech, rather than relying on government intervention. He referenced a rally held in Dearborn just three days after the October 7 terrorist attack, where anti-Semitic remarks were made, including a call for the destruction of Israel. At the time, Congressman Walberg called on Michigan leaders to condemn these remarks, but unfortunately, many chose to remain silent.

"Following the terrorist attack, we have witnessed a tragic rise in anti-Semitism worldwide," stated Congressman Walberg. "It is crucial for those with moral clarity to unequivocally condemn such hatred. I have been vocal in my opposition to anti-Semitism, both in Michigan and on a global scale. Perpetuating Hamas propaganda is abhorrent and unacceptable."

In addition to his stance on the censure resolution against Rep. Tlaib, Congressman Walberg also cited constitutional protections in his opposition to a censure resolution targeting Rep. Taylor Greene (R-GA), introduced by Rep. Balint (D-VT). This resolution was later withdrawn.

This statement from Congressman Walberg demonstrates his commitment to defending the First Amendment and ensuring that all Americans can exercise their right to free speech.
