Washington, D.C. - Congressman Tim Walberg (R-MI) has expressed his support for the impeachment of Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas. In a statement released on February 13, 2024, Walberg highlighted several concerns regarding Secretary Mayorkas' performance and actions.
According to Walberg, there have been over 8.3 million illegal border crossings across the nation under Secretary Mayorkas' leadership. Additionally, 1.7 million individuals, known as "gotaways," have successfully evaded the U.S. Border Patrol. These statistics raise serious concerns about public safety and national security.
Furthermore, Walberg criticized Secretary Mayorkas for implementing a catch-and-release scheme, which he believes violates the detention requirements and parole authority established by the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA). Walberg stated, "By implementing a catch-and-release scheme, Secretary Mayorkas has violated the detention requirements and parole authority established by the Immigration and Nationality Act (INA)."
Walberg also accused Secretary Mayorkas of making false statements and obstructing the Committee on Homeland Security's oversight investigations. Walberg believes that Mayorkas has breached the trust of the American people by knowingly making false statements regarding the consequences of his refusal to comply with the law.
In his statement, Walberg emphasized that holding Secretary Mayorkas accountable is necessary. He stated, "This decision is not taken lightly, but Congress must hold Secretary Mayorkas accountable." Walberg believes that Mayorkas' willful refusal to obey existing immigration laws has undermined public trust and jeopardized national security, effectively turning every community into a border community.
With his support for the impeachment of Secretary Mayorkas, Congressman Tim Walberg asserts the importance of upholding federal immigration laws and ensuring the safety and security of the American people.
