Rep. Tim Walberg, who has represented Michigan’s 5th district in the U.S. Congress since 2011, used his social media platform in early October to address ongoing issues related to a government shutdown and federal funding legislation.
On October 3, Walberg posted: "All Democrats in the Senate need to do to reopen the government is pass the nonpartisan funding bill, which they supported 13 times under the Biden administration and again back in March. House Republicans passed it two weeks ago."
Three days later, on October 6, he highlighted concerns from veterans affected by suspended programs due to what he called the "Democrat shutdown." In his post, Walberg stated: "Michigan’s 5th District is home to over 40,000 outstanding veterans. I hosted a roundtable with veterans from the community to hear their concerns about important programs that have been suspended due to the Democrat shutdown. Senate Democrats must pass the clean CR to provide".
Later that same day, Walberg commented on healthcare policy debates linked to rural hospitals and undocumented immigrants: "Democrats want to repeal the single largest investment in rural hospitals in history and instead give free health care to illegal immigrants. They must stop these partisan games and pass the clean government funding bill."
Tim Walberg has served as a congressional representative for Michigan's 5th District since replacing Mark Schauer in 2011. Before joining Congress, he served in the Michigan House of Representatives from 1983 until 1999. Born in Chicago in 1951 and currently residing in Tipton, Walberg holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Taylor University.
