Congressman Tim Walberg has recognized Dave Welihan of Jackson as the Veteran of the Month for October. During a presentation, Walberg gave Welihan a copy of the Congressional Record that included remarks honoring his service and contributions.

Welihan served in the U.S. Army from 1971 to 1974. After his military service, he worked as a Veteran Service Officer, commander of the American Legion Richard F. Smith Post 29, and Director of the Jackson County Veterans Affairs Office. While at the Jackson County VA, Welihan coordinated the burial of five unclaimed veterans to ensure they received proper honors.

"It is an honor to recognize Dave Welihan from Jackson as the Veteran of the Month for October for his courageous service and lasting contributions to the veteran community," said Rep. Walberg. "Dave’s unwavering resolve, tireless commitment, and leadership have made a tangible difference in the lives of many veterans in Michigan's 5th District. Through his many roles and daily actions, he has uplifted and advocated for his fellow veterans, serving as a guide, mentor, and friend. His legacy will not only live on in the hearts of those he has helped but also in the strong community he has helped build."

Walberg's office is currently accepting nominations for its Veteran of the Month program, which highlights outstanding veterans from Michigan's 5th Congressional District each month.

Tim Walberg has represented Michigan’s 5th district in Congress since 2011 after replacing Mark Schauer. Before serving in Congress, he was a member of the Michigan House of Representatives from 1983 to 1999. He was born in Chicago in 1951 and now lives in Tipton. Walberg holds a BA from Taylor University.
