Tim Walberg highlights effects of shutdown and praises law enforcement efforts

Rep. Tim Walberg, who represents Michigan’s 5th district in the U.S. Congress, has recently used his social media platform to address the ongoing government shutdown and its consequences, as well as issues related to political violence and border security.

On October 7, 2025, Walberg posted about the impact of the government shutdown. He wrote: "Consequences of the Democrats’ government shutdown:

Troops, border patrol, and air traffic controllers working without pay

Women and children in need without assistance

Transition program assistance and career counseling for veterans suspended

The following day, on October 8, 2025, Walberg expressed his appreciation for law enforcement after an incident involving political violence was prevented. He stated: "Thank you to law enforcement for thwarting what could have been yet another tragic instance of political violence and another attack on a church.

Later that same day, Walberg addressed border security concerns. He wrote: "Our border patrol agents have been working tirelessly to secure our border and protect our communities, and as a result, illegal crossings have dropped to the lowest annual level since the 1970s.

We must reopen the government to not impede their important work."

Tim Walberg has represented Michigan’s 5th District in Congress since 2011, following service in the Michigan House of Representatives from 1983 to 1999. Born in Chicago in 1951, he currently resides in Tipton and holds a BA from Taylor University.
