Rep. Steve Marino (R-Harrison Charter Township) wants the state's nursing home policy, which has been in place since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, to change, according to a column he wrote for Michigan House Republicans.
Marino says the nursing home policy -- allowing coronavirus patients into long-term care facilities -- is dangerous and has put nursing home residents at great risk every day.
"In fact, about one-third of the COVID-19 deaths in Michigan have occurred at nursing homes and long-term care facilities," Marino writes in his column.

Marino believes that Michigan needs to follow suit with other states, who have realized the problem with their nursing home protocols and reversed them.
"Last month, Gov. Gretchen Whitmer vetoed a plan presented to her by the Legislature that would have ended her misguided policies and better protected our seniors," Marino wrote in the column. "This plan would have protected our grandparents, parents, neighbors and other loved ones who must continue to face these harmful policies."
Marino said he would continue to fight for those who are most vulnerable and he hopes Whitmer will ultimately discard her mandate.
