Michigan Chamber of Commerce issued the following announcement on Jan. 8.
Congress passed, and the President signed, legislation in late December to extend the federal unemployment insurance programs created under the Coronavirus Aid, Relief and Economic Security Act (CARES Act). Among other things, the bill provides an additional $300 a week to those who qualify for unemployment insurance in their state through March 13, 2021.
The state announced yesterday they are hoping to “rollout configuration” to pay the $300 supplemental UI benefit amount next week. We have received confirmation that the $300 payment will be payable to those receiving regular unemployment, Pandemic Emergency Unemployment Compensation (PEUC), Extended Benefits (EB), Pandemic Unemployment Assistance (PUA), WorkShare, Trade Readjustment Allowances (TRA) and Disaster Unemployment Assistance (DUA) benefits; however, we are still uncertain when checks will hit claimants’ bank account. The $300 payment will apply to weeks ending Jan. 2 through March 13, 2021.
The state has said, “they are working as quickly as possible to restore these programs…[and to] continue to check the UIA website for updates.”
