Scott Bray, incumbent Grass Lake Charter Township Trustee, is seeking the Republican nomination for re-election to his seat for a four-year term. The primary election will be held on August 6.
According to Jackson County's official candidate list, Bray is facing Tina M. Bednarski-Lynch, Brent Coors, Blake Wyant, and Mathew Rentfrow in the GOP primary. Voters may choose up to four candidates.
Bray shares what he has accomplished during his ten-plus years on the Grass Lake Charter Township Board, including starting Facebook pages for both Grass Lake Township and the Grass Lake Fire Department, moving Board meetings to YouTube livestreaming, serving on both the Election Board and the Park Board, and working on bids to improve accessibility to the Township Office.
He also notes that during his tenure, the Board has eliminated the Township's debt, initiated deputy service, created an ordinance enforcement officer role, and created a senior center within the Township office, according to his website.
On his campaign website, Bray reveals that he and his wife Karla raised three sons in Grass Lake. During that time, he was involved with the Boy Scouts, and he coached and administered the Grass Lake Region of the American Youth Soccer Organization for more than 20 years. He built computer business systems before retiring.
In a press release, Private Property Rights PAC — a political action committee whose "mission is to safeguard and promote the ownership and control of private property" — endorsed Bray, stating that he "has demonstrated a profound commitment to the principles of property rights and governance that respect the rights of individual property owners" and praising his stance against government overreach.
Private Property Rights PAC Senior Adviser Madeline Morris expressed confidence in Bray's commitment to private property rights and government transparency and accountability, predicting that he "will help protect the foundational rights that are vital to personal freedom and economic stability" in Grass Lake Charter Township.
The Grass Lake Charter Township Board comprises four trustees.
According to the Michigan Townships Association, township trustees act as township legislators and are required to vote on all issues. They are also responsible for the fiduciary health of the township and for carrying out any other duties assigned by the township board. Trustees are elected to four-year terms.
