Education and Workforce Committee Chairman Tim Walberg (R-MI) has expressed concern about the ongoing government shutdown, attributing it to Democratic leadership and highlighting its impact on jobs data. In a statement released Friday, Walberg said that the lack of timely employment statistics for the second consecutive month is hindering businesses, workers, and policymakers.
“Once again, our nation will not receive timely jobs data because Democrats are keeping the federal government shut down. This data is a critical tool businesses, workers, and policy makers use to assess the strength of America’s economy and workforce. Without it, our workforce is forced to navigate increasing economic uncertainty caused by the Democrat shutdown while workers struggle to pay bills or put food on the table," Walberg stated.
He added: “It is imperative we reopen the government, return to President Trump’s pro-growth agenda, and restore certainty for our workforce and the American economy.”
Walberg has represented Michigan’s 5th district in Congress since 2011 after succeeding Mark Schauer. He previously served in the Michigan House of Representatives from 1983 to 1999. Born in Chicago in 1951, Walberg resides in Tipton and holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Taylor University.
