Veteran

A Lenawee County World War II Veteran and Purple Heart recipient was recently a special guest of state Rep. Bronna Kahle (R-Adrian) and Sen. Dale Zorn (R-Ida) at the state's capital to be presented with a legislative tribute.

Frank Dick, who participated in the Battle of the Bulge on the Western Front, was presented the honor on Dec. 5 at the state capital for his service in George Patton's Third Army, 80th Division, 317th Infantry Regiment, known as the Blue Ridge Mountain Boys.

“Those who have served our great nation deserve our respect and recognition for their sacrifices,” Kahle said in a statement. “Frank’s incredible desire to serve is acknowledged through his time as a soldier in World War II and as he continued to give back to those around him after returning home."

Following the war, Dick lived throughout northern Ohio and southern Michigan and served as superintendent of schools in Sylvania and Toledo. He also served as mayor in Ohio and was married to his wife, Shirley, for 63 years before her death in 2010.
