Cost of college went up for all students at Jackson College

In-state tuition and fees rose 5.5 percent for 2018-19 at Jackson College, according to recent data from the U.S. Department of Education.

Michigan residents paid $8,742 to attend the four-year public institution this year – $454 more than the $8,288 charged for 2017-18.

Non-residents paid 28 percent more than residents this year, or $11,187. Their price tag grew 5.3 percent from $10,624 in 2017-18.

About 98 percent of the school's undergraduate population are Michigan residents. And about 2 percent are residents of other states.

Data shows 87 percent of full-time undergraduates who started school in 2015-16 received student financial aid in some form. In all, 400 students received grants or scholarships totaling $2.7 million and 201 students took out student loans totaling more than $954,699.

Including all undergraduates (5,083), 2,652 students used grants or scholarships totaling $15.4 million, and 1,577 students took out $9.4 million in federal student loans.
