Nearly half of Michigan's school districts limited to online learning at the mid-year point

Winter break has arrived, and the ten largest school districts in Michigan still providing online instruction only.

These districts carried 204,449 students, or 14.2% of the state’s schoolchildren, according to Michigan Capitol Confidential.

The ten districts are not alone, as 48% of the state’s districts are solely online, while 1% (11 school districts) provide all courses for in-person instruction. The remainder of the school districts, 51%, offer a combination of in-person and online learning.

The Detroit Public Community District had offered in-person instruction from Sept. 8 through Nov. 16 but suspected classes due to an increase of COVID-19 cases in Detroit.

The ten largest school districts in Michigan are: Detroit Public Schools Community District, Utica Community Schools, Dearborn City School District, Ann Arbor Public Schools, Plymouth-Canton Community Schools, Chippewa Valley Schools, Rochester Community School District, Grand Rapids Public Schools, Livonia Public Schools School District, Warren Consolidated Schools, Walled Lake Consolidated Schools, according to Michigan Capitol Confidential.
