N. Mechanic Street between Louis Glick Highway and Detroit Street will close on Monday, Feb. 27 so the Michigan Department of Transportation (MDOT) can continue its railroad bridge replacement project in Downtown Jackson.
Both N. Mechanic and N. Jackson streets were closed for most of 2022 for the first phase of the construction project, which will fully replace the train bridges and underpasses at these two streets. N. Mechanic is closing again on Feb. 27 so construction crews can continue the construction project. Also included in the project area is the N. Blackstone Street train crossing. N. Blackstone between Van Buren and W. Trail Street will close in early April so the crossing can be replaced.
N. Jackson Street will not close to traffic until the bridge replacement takes place in Aug. The $32.9 million project from MDOT is expected to be complete in Oct.
