Jackson Public Schools had the highest enrollment among Jackson County districts, welcoming 4,465 students during the 2023-24 school year, according to the Michigan Department of Education.

Of all the students welcomed in the 2023-24 school year, 50.7% of them were boys, and 49.3% were girls.

The most represented ethnicity among Jackson Public Schools students was white, accounting for 41.5% of the student population.

Among the 16 districts in Jackson County, Northwest Community Schools ranked second in enrollment numbers with 3,467 students, while Western School District welcomed 2,687 students and ranked third in the 2023-24 school year.

Jackson Public Schools roughly covers schools within Jackson County, with its main office in Jackson.

In the previous school year, Jackson Public Schools also had the highest number of students among Jackson County schools.

Overall student enrollment in Michigan remains below pre-pandemic levels, with white students experiencing the largest decline at 6.5%.

Academic performance has also suffered, with the state's average NAEP score dropping by 6.5 points and ethnic achievement gaps have widened. Black and Hispanic students' average math proficiency dropped by 7% in 2022, to 13.5% and 28.2%, respectively.
