Rep. Tim Walberg, currently serving in the U.S. Congress representing Michigan's 5th district, shared several updates on May 8, 2025, through his social media platform. Walberg has been a member of Congress since 2011 and previously served in the Michigan House of Representatives from 1983 to 1999.
On May 8, Rep. Walberg expressed gratitude towards the Trump administration and his team for their efforts in securing the release of Robert Vieira, a constituent who had been wrongfully detained in Tunisia for over a year. He stated, "I had the opportunity to meet with Robert Vieira, a constituent of mine who had been wrongfully detained in Tunisia for over a year. I’d like to give my heartfelt thanks to the Trump administration and my team of caseworkers for their work to secure his release and safely bring".
Later that day, he commemorated the anniversary of Victory in Europe Day by honoring American and allied heroes who fought during World War II. He remarked on this historic occasion by saying, "80 years ago today, victory was declared in Europe. We honor all the American and allied heroes who bravely fought to defend freedom around the world. We will never forget the sacrifices they made."
In another update on May 8, Rep. Walberg congratulated Pope Leo XIV on becoming the first American pope and highlighted his Midwestern roots. He conveyed his hopes for Pope Leo XIV's leadership by stating, "Congratulations to the newly elected head of the Catholic Church, Pope Leo XIV, who is the first American pope in history and a fellow Midwesterner. I pray his leadership will inspire goodwill and unity across the globe. May God bless him and guide him."
Tim Walberg was born in Chicago in 1951 and resides in Tipton. He graduated from Taylor University with a Bachelor of Arts degree.
