During National Police Week, Congressman Tim Walberg met with members of the Hillsdale County Sheriff's Office to express gratitude for their service and honor their colleague, Deputy William Henry Butler Jr. Deputy Butler was killed in June 2024 during a traffic stop. He served in the sheriff's office for 12 years after 26 years in the National Guard, including deployments during Operation Iraqi Freedom. His name was added to the National Law Enforcement Officers Memorial wall in Washington, D.C., and he was recognized at a candlelight vigil.
Congressman Walberg presented the sheriff's office members with the Congressional Record of his floor speech from July 2024, which honored Deputy Butler's life and legacy.
"During this National Police Week, I was honored to meet with Detective Sergeant Ludeker, Deputy Fellabaum, and Deputy Cramer of the Hillsdale County Sheriff's Office to express my sincere appreciation for the vital work they do to protect our community," said Rep. Walberg. "This week, we pause to remember and honor all those who have made the ultimate sacrifice, including Deputy Butler, and recognize all our heroic law enforcement officers across the country who work tirelessly to keep our communities safe. We are eternally grateful for their service and sacrifice."
