Yesterday, Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-05) recognized Ken Moore as the first recipient of the Veteran of the Month award. This new initiative is intended to honor veterans in Michigan's 5th Congressional District for their service and ongoing contributions to their communities.
Ken Moore, who served in the U.S. Air Force during the Vietnam War, co-founded Flags O'er Veterans, an organization that honors deceased veterans by installing flagpoles at cemeteries in Monroe. In addition to his military service, Moore spent 25 years with the Monroe Police Force.
"I am proud to announce this new initiative, which recognizes outstanding veterans in Michigan's 5th District, and honor Ken Moore from Monroe as our first recipient," said Rep Walberg. "Our nation's heroic veterans have sacrificed so much for our freedoms, and since returning home, many have continued to serve our communities through their everyday actions. Ken Moore’s remarkable life of service and his leadership working on behalf of America’s veterans inspire us all."
The presentation included a Congressional Record highlighting Moore's life and legacy. Pictures and a video from the event are available online.
Congressman Walberg's office has opened nominations for future recipients of the Veteran of the Month program. Each month, one veteran from Michigan's 5th District will be selected based on their military service and community involvement.
Tim Walberg has represented Michigan’s 5th district in Congress since 2011 after replacing Mark Schauer (https://walberg.house.gov/). Before serving in Congress, he was a member of the Michigan House of Representatives from 1983 to 1999 (https://walberg.house.gov/about). He was born in Chicago in 1951 and currently resides in Tipton. Walberg earned his BA degree from Taylor University.
To nominate a veteran for this recognition, constituents can complete a nomination form provided by Congressman Walberg’s office.
