Education and Workforce Committee Chairman Tim Walberg (R-MI) issued a statement criticizing the impact of the current government shutdown on jobs data. Walberg attributed the disruption to what he called a "Democrat-demanded shutdown," stating that it is hindering essential federal operations and delaying the release of important employment figures.
“Over the course of this administration, President Trump’s pro-growth policies have consistently connected American workers with good jobs. Unfortunately, Democrats refused to work with Republicans and the Trump administration to help more Americans chase the American Dream. In fact, the Democrat-demanded shutdown is disrupting critical federal functions and directly undermining the release of timely jobs data. Without reliable reporting, businesses, workers, and policymakers are left in the dark—creating uncertainty in the labor market, slowing investment, and threatening economic stability," Walberg said.
He further commented on broader effects: “Yet Democrats’ stonewalling doesn’t just impact job numbers. The threat of a prolonged government shutdown is creating uncertainty for every American worker and job creator.”
Tim Walberg has represented Michigan’s 5th district in Congress since 2011 after replacing Mark Schauer. Before his time in Congress, he served in the Michigan House of Representatives from 1983 to 1999. Walberg was born in Chicago in 1951 and currently resides in Tipton. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Taylor University.
