Rep. Tim Walberg, who represents Michigan’s 5th district in the U.S. Congress, has used his social media platform to criticize Senate Democrats over the ongoing government shutdown and its impact on critical services.
On October 9, 2025, Walberg posted about a visit to Weir Farms, stating: "I had the opportunity to visits Weir Farms to hear more about how the Democrats’ government shutdown interrupts critical services and delays payments for our nation’s farmers. Senate Democrats must pass the clean CR to provide certainty for hardworking farmers in Michigan."
Later that same day, he highlighted Democratic voting history on funding bills: "13 times Democrats voted for a clean funding bill. Democrats asked for two things during negotiations, and despite @HouseGOP delivering on those requests, Democrats still walked away from the table. At the end of the day, Democrats are afraid of their own base and willing to"
The following day, Walberg addressed comments attributed to Senator Schumer regarding the shutdown's effects: "When talking about the government shutdown, Senator Schumer that 'every day gets better for us.' Every day is not getting better for our military, air traffic controllers, border patrol agents, or the American people. Senate Democrats must stop playing political games and reopen"
Tim Walberg has served in Congress since 2011 after replacing Mark Schauer. He previously held office in the Michigan House of Representatives from 1983 until 1999 and was born in Chicago in 1951 before moving to Tipton. Walberg holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Taylor University.
