Rep. Tim Walberg, a U.S. Congressman representing Michigan’s 5th district since 2011, recently addressed issues related to the ongoing government shutdown and its effects on military personnel and small businesses, as well as a posthumous honor awarded to Charlie Kirk.

On October 14, 2025, Walberg stated, "On September 19, the House voted for a clean CR to pay our troops. However, Democrats in the Senate have voted 7 times against paying our troops. They must end this shutdown and reopen the government for our brave servicemembers."

Later that day, he posted about a presidential award: "Today, President Trump posthumously awarded Charlie Kirk the Presidential Medal of Freedom on what would have been his 32nd birthday. Charlie’s vision for building a better and stronger America will continue to live on through generations of Americans who have now been tasked"

On October 15, 2025, Walberg discussed his visit to a Michigan business: "I recently visited Contour Tool & Machine in Jackson to discuss how the government shutdown is negatively impacting small businesses in Michigan and across the country due to reduced services and the pause on processing new loans at the Small Business Administration."

Walberg's comments come amid a federal government shutdown that has led to lapses in various services, including those affecting active duty military pay and small business loan processing. The debate over continuing resolutions (CRs) to fund the government has been contentious, with divisions between the House and Senate on measures related to troop compensation.

Tim Walberg has served in Congress since 2011 after replacing Mark Schauer. He previously served in the Michigan House of Representatives from 1983 to 1999. Born in Chicago in 1951, Walberg currently resides in Tipton and holds a BA from Taylor University.
