CITY OF JACKSON: Council Jan. 14, 2020 Meeting

City of Jackson issued the following announcement on Jan. 14.

Here are some highlights from the Jackson City Council meeting on Tuesday, Jan. 14:

-The council unanimously approved a resolution that supports proposed state legislation that creates a process for expunging misdemeanors and select felonies from criminal records.

-After a closed session to discuss the matter, the council voted to formally conclude the probation period for City Clerk Andrea Muray. The clerk was placed on probation last fall for her role in not submitting road repair millages to the state to appear on the November ballot.

-The 2020-24 Parks and Recreation Department Master Plan was approved by the council.

-The council voted to support an application for Bucky Harris Park to be listed on the National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom. Local researcher Linda Hass found that the land where the park is today once held  Michigan’s first anti-slavery newspaper in the 1800s.
