CITY OF JACKSON: Learn About Local Law Enforcement By Joining Jackson's Citizen Police Academy

City of Jackson issued the following announcement on Feb. 3.

Would you like to learn more about how local law enforcement keeps the community safe? Local authorities are looking for residents to join their Citizen Police Academy! 

On behalf of the Jackson Police Department and the Jackson County Office of the Sheriff, applications are now being accepted for the 2020 Citizen Police Academy (CPA).  

Any Jackson County resident interested is encouraged to apply.  

The CPA is aimed at citizens wanting to gain first-hand knowledge of the daily operations and procedures of the Jackson Police Department and the Jackson County Office of the Sheriff. 

Some of the topics covered include: Police K-9, Firearms Instruction, Narcotics Investigations, and Use of Force Applications.  

Participants will have an opportunity to ride on patrol with an officer and test their skills at the shooting range with a firearm instructor.  

Successful applicants will meet for ten consecutive Wednesday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m.  

The anticipated start of the CPA is early April.   

Applications are available at the Jackson Police Department, Jackson County Office of the Sheriff, or online.  

Applications will be accepted through March 24, 2020. 

Applications may be turned in at the Jackson Police Department, with attention to Sgt. Ganzhorn or at the Jackson County Office of the Sheriff, with attention to  Sgt. Stewart.
