FOIA Request to Jackson County Election Division Regarding Upcoming Election Candidates on February 5, 2025.

In our ongoing commitment to provide comprehensive and accurate news coverage on local governmental affairs, we at South Michigan News have formally requested records under the Michigan Freedom of Information Act § 15.231 et seq., from the Jackson County Election Division.

The request specifically seeks a list of all candidates running in the upcoming election. We have asked for detailed information including the candidate's first, middle, and last names, the office they are running for, jurisdiction of the office, and their party affiliation.

In addition to this, we have also requested all contact information for each candidate. This includes their address, phone number, and email address.

As a media organization, our role is not just about gathering and reporting news but also holding public institutions accountable and providing transparency to the public. Access to public records is essential for us to fulfill these professional responsibilities.

We believe that given our role in disseminating information to the public, we are eligible for a fee waiver as a media professional under the Freedom of Information Act.

We await a response from the Jackson County Election Division and will continue our efforts to ensure transparency in local government affairs.
