Senator Roger Victory has formally requested the Michigan Office of the Auditor General to conduct a review of Medicaid spending within the state. The aim is to address concerns about the rapid increase in spending and ongoing issues such as fraudulent claims and improper payments.
"Every dollar in Medicaid must benefit those whom the program is intended to serve," said Victory, R-Hudsonville. He expressed his anticipation for feedback from the Office of the Auditor General as he seeks to tackle waste, fraud, and abuse within the system.
Victory emphasized that this review is essential for maintaining Medicaid's integrity and ensuring that core services remain available to beneficiaries. "This issue affects every Michigan taxpayer, with Medicaid accounting for roughly one-third of all state spending. Moreover, it is particularly important for the more than 2.5 million who are entitled to benefits to ensure they have access to the essential, covered care that the program is designed to offer," he stated.
The Michigan Office of the Auditor General plays a key role in improving accountability for public funds and enhancing state government operations. It was established under Article IV, Section 53 of the Michigan Constitution.
