Tim Walberg discusses SNAP funding and celebrates Marine Corps anniversary

Rep. Tim Walberg, U.S. Congressman representing Michigan’s 5th district since 2011, shared updates on social media in early November regarding his recent activities and legislative priorities.

On November 8, Walberg posted about a visit to Martin's Super Market in Niles to discuss the impact of the government shutdown on SNAP recipients. He stated, "I had the opportunity to stop by Martin's Super Market in Niles and hear their concerns about how the shutdown is affecting some of their customers who use SNAP benefits to get by. While I voted on September 19 to fully fund SNAP benefits, Democrats in the Senate have repeatedly" (November 8, 2025).

In a separate post on November 10, Walberg recognized the anniversary of a major U.S. military institution: "Today, we celebrate 250 years of the United States Marine Corps, which has stood as America’s force in readiness, always prepared, determined, and faithful. From its formation at Tun Tavern to the battlefield of Belleau Wood, from the shores of Iwo Jima to the streets of" (November 10, 2025).

Later that day, he reflected on participating in an event marking this milestone: "It was an honor to stand before all those who have worn, supported, and continue to uphold the proud title of U.S. Marine at the Marine Corps League’s 250 birthday event in Quincy this past weekend. The world may change, but the Marine Corps and the values it stands for will" (November 10, 2025).

Walberg has served as a member of Congress for Michigan’s 5th District since succeeding Mark Schauer in 2011. Prior to his tenure in Congress, he was a member of the Michigan House of Representatives from 1983 to 1999. Born in Chicago in 1951 and now residing in Tipton, Walberg holds a Bachelor of Arts degree from Taylor University.
