CITY OF PORTAGE: Oakland Drive Railroad Closure

City of Portage issued the following announcement on July 15.

Beginning Monday, July 19, 2021, weather dependent, the railroad crossing at Oakland Drive will undergo safety improvements by Grand Elk Railroad. During construction, Oakland Drive will be closed from Surry Street to Oak Leaf Trail and thru-traffic will not be permitted. Construction will consist of an automatic grade crossing warning system and concrete panel grade crossing. The signed detour route for southbound traffic will be West Osterhout Avenue to Shaver Road to US-131 to West U Avenue. The signed detour route for northbound traffic will be West U Avenue to US-131 to Shaver Road to West Osterhout Avenue.

Motorists are advised to be alert and drive slowly while traveling in the construction influenced area. Oakland Drive is anticipated to be open to thru-traffic by Friday, July 30, 2021, weather permitting.
