Street construction begins in Cascades Park area

Construction

City of Jackson issued the following announcement on Oct 11.

Street construction began on Monday, Oct. 11 in the Cascades Park area. The construction project focuses on reducing the street widths of Brown and Randolph streets, which border the west and south ends of the county park. The streets will be reduced from four lanes of traffic to two. Two-way traffic will be shifted to one side of the boulevard, with the remaining side closest to the park being converted into green space.

During the construction period, Randolph Street between High and Brown will be shut down. Brown Street between Randolph and Denton will be reduced to a single-lane of southbound traffic. Randolph Street will see new pavement and speed bumps removed. Brown Street will have its speed bumps removed. This first phase of the project will wrap up in mid November. The second phase will resurface Denton Road between the bridge and Brown Street.

This construction project is happening to reduce the amount of streets the City has to maintain, along with providing more space between vehicle traffic and pedestrian trails in the park.
