City of Hillsdale issued the following announcement on Feb 24.

NOTICE FOR FILING PETITIONS FOR CITY OFFICES

Nominating petitions will be received at the office of the City Clerk until the deadline of 4 p.m., Tuesday, April 19, 2022, for the following offices:

• Mayor

• Council Member, 1st Ward

• Council Member, 2nd Ward

• Council Member, 3rd Ward

• Council Member, 4th Ward

Nominating petitions and supplemental information packets must be obtained from the office of the City Clerk, located at City Hall, 97 N. Broad Street, Hillsdale, Michigan, during normal business hours (Mon-Fri, 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.).

Petitions for Mayor and Council seats require not less than 25 signatures of qualified electors and not more than 50 qualified electors’ signatures.

Candidates for City Office must be: a U.S. citizen, a qualified elector, and, be a resident of the City of Hillsdale for three (3) years, as well as residing in the Ward they will represent (for Wards 1-4), for six (6) months prior to the date of the election (sec.5-1), and shall not be in default to the City.

If there are more than two candidates seeking the same office, candidates will be placed on the August 2, 2022 Primary Election ballot where the top two candidates receiving votes will qualify for the November 8, 2022 General Election. If there are not more than two candidates for the same office there will not be an August Primary Election for council and all qualified candidates will appear on the November ballot.
