Jackson firefighters train using new battery-powered 'jaws of life'

Webp firetruck2345

City of Jackson issued the following announcement on Mar 1.

Keeping up with the latest technology is essential for everyone, especially first responders! The Jackson Fire Department is training using a new battery-powered extrication tool or "jaws of life". Firefighters say this new equipment is much more reliable, quieter, and quicker to use in an emergency.

Previous extrication tools used by Jackson firefighters ran on gasoline and used hoses to power the unit. These tools are used to free people trapped in a crushed vehicle by cutting the vehicle away from victims.

Crews are training with the new battery-powered equipment this week so they're ready to use it in an emergency.
