After a two year closure due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Jackson residents will once again be able to make a splash at a popular community pool. The City of Jackson Parks and Recreation Department is currently working to reopen the Nixon Water Park to residents on Monday, June 20 for a full summer season.
The water park was closed for the 2020 and 2021 summer seasons due to the pandemic. Along with public health concerns, it would have been difficult to open the water park due to mechanical issues and staffing shortages.
With the community now in a different stage of the pandemic response, the Parks and Recreation Department is working toward reopening the Nixon Water Park for the 2022 season. The City is partnering with the Jackson YMCA to make sure the pool is fully staffed with lifeguards. Preparations are ongoing to get the pool’s mechanicals ready for a June opening after a two year closure.
Parks and Recreation Department Director Kelli Hoover says her staff is working hard to get the pool in shape. “Summers in Jackson aren’t the same without fun at the Nixon Water Park,” Hoover said. “If all goes to plan, this will be a welcome return for the entire community.”
The Nixon Water Park is located inside Nixon Park at 400 E. North St. It contains a water slide, full pool, waterfall, and wading area. The complex also hosts an event space for community use. During the 2019 season, the Nixon Water Park saw around 19,000 visitors.
The Parks and Recreation Department is planning on opening the Nixon Water Park Monday through Saturday from Monday, June 20 to Saturday, Aug. 20. Operating times and entry fees will be posted in the Nixon Water Park section of the City website.
