A busy neighborhood street in Jackson will be closed to traffic so crews can complete an urgent sewer repair. S. Wisner Street will be closed in both directions from W. Michigan Avenue to W. Franklin Street the morning of Tuesday, Sept. 13. W. Washington Avenue from S. Bowen to S. Thompson streets will also be impacted by the closure.
The cause of this urgent construction project is a collapsed sanitary sewer system under the intersection of S. Wisner Street and W. Washington Avenue. The collapsed sewer is causing a small sinkhole to form in the middle of the intersection, posing a safety hazard for drivers and pedestrians. Fixing the sewer as soon as possible ensures residents in the area have a reliable sewer system.
The work is expected to be complete the afternoon of Wednesday, Sept. 14. Drivers are asked to take alternate routes, such as the recently reopened S. West Avenue.
