Did you know the cornerstone of the Fenton Baptist Seminary contained a TIME CAPSULE!?!?!?

We found a June 16, 1868 Fenton Independent article that describes the cornerstone/time capsule as follows:

"Our [cornerstone] is in harmony with the spirit of the age. It is eminently utilitarian. It is of such size as to make it a fit receptacle for deposits every decade for the next hundred years at least. And besides being strictly fire proof, it will not be subject to the casualties arising from conflagration, earthquakes, or even moral upheavals, which are vastly more difficult to resist."

After the Seminary was razed in 2015, the cornerstone was relocated to Oakwood Cemetery, where it is on display to this day.

Cemetery board member Doug Tebo says by 2015 the time capsule was empty, and he provided a photo. We do not know what was ever in there, or what happened to it. What do you think was in the time capsule?

We now share with you the 1868 Independent article and some photos. Enjoy!
