Congressman Tim Walberg stopped by Berrien Springs on Wednesday to talk with members of the community about issues on their mind. Around 60 attended the event at the Berrien Springs Community Library, and a hot topic of conversation was the Department of Labor’s new rule on Adverse Effect Wage Rate, or the minimum wage rate that is required for farmers that use the H-2A program. Several farmers came out Wednesday to say the new rule increases their costs and complicates finding migrant workers. Walberg has signed on to a letter to the U.S. Department of Labor from several Michigan members of Congress asking for the rule to be changed. Other topics of discussion were electric vehicles, the VA system, and government spending.
