Washington, D.C. -- On May 11, Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-05) voted in favor of H.R. 2, Secure the Border Act, as it passed the House. Secure the Border Act would implement a comprehensive set of solutions to improve border security, including resuming construction of the border wall, hiring more Border Patrol agents, reinstating Trump era policies like Remain in Mexico, and reforming the broken asylum process.

“In just a few short years, President Biden and his allies in Congress have opened our country up to an unprecedented number of illegal border crossings and stream of illicit fentanyl,“  said Rep Walberg. “I’ve been to the southern border during both the Trump era and the Biden era, and there could not be a starker difference.  We went from construction and implementation of strong border security measures and upbeat patrol agents to seeing materials sit unused while agents are overwhelmed. The Secure the Border Act provides yet another solution to yet another crisis caused by the policies of the Biden White House."

 Provisions of H.R. 2 include:

  • Require the Biden Administration to restart construction of the southern border wall.
  • Deploy improved technology to the southern and northern borders.
  • Increase the number of Border Patrol agents and provide bonus pay.
  • Require transparency from the Department of Homeland Security regarding illegal crossings.
  • Strengthen existing laws to protect children from human trafficking.
  • End catch and release, and the abuse of executive immigration authority.
  • Strengthen and streamline the asylum process.
