Congressman Tim Walberg | Rep. Tim Walberg Official U.S House Headshot

On May 24, 2023, Congressman Tim Walberg (MI-05) spoke on the House floor to demand the passage of H.R. 467, HALT Fentanyl Act, legislation he cosponsored. The legislation would permanently place fentanyl-related substances in Schedule I under the Controlled Substances Act, providing law enforcement with the tools necessary to keep these dangerous substances off our streets. Click here to view his remarks.

“Illicit fentanyl poisonings are now the number one cause of death among Americans aged 18 to 49,” said Rep. Walberg. “Despite this, Congress has continued to kick the can down the road by temporarily extending the class-wide scheduling order, leaving law enforcement scrambling at the last minute. This vital piece of legislation will permanently give law enforcement the tools necessary to fight the flow of fentanyl and is a great first step in keeping Americans safe from these lethal substances.”

Congressman Walberg serves on the House Energy and Commerce Committee and is a cosponsor of the HALT Fentanyl Act. For more information on Walberg's work in Congress visit walberg.house.gov.
