State Representative Kathy Schmaltz has acknowledged the important role that Catholic schools play in Michigan's education system by declaring Jan. 28 through Feb. 3 as Catholic Schools Week in the state. With over 200 Catholic elementary and high schools serving nearly 50,000 students, these institutions provide a comprehensive education that focuses on moral, intellectual, and social values.
According to Rep. Schmaltz, Catholic schools are instrumental in shaping responsible citizens for the state and nation. She stated, "Catholic schools provide a comprehensive, values-based education that focuses on the lifelong cultivation of moral, intellectual, and social values." By instilling a sense of responsibility in young minds, these schools play a vital role in developing responsible citizens.
In Jackson, Michigan, St. John Catholic School is celebrating its 150th school year, while Lumen Christi High School recently secured its 13th state football championship. Rep. Schmaltz expressed her admiration for the Catholic schools in the state, saying, "We have wonderful Catholic schools in Michigan. Through their dedication to high academic standards, impressive graduation rates, and commitment to service, our local Catholic schools and their students make an undeniably positive contribution to our community."
Rep. Schmaltz also acknowledged the hard work of the teachers, volunteers, and administrators who support these schools and their students. She stated, "It's an honor to get to recognize these schools and the teachers, volunteers, and administrators who work on behalf of our kids."
