Lawmakers propose public safety funding boost across Michigan

State Representative Nancy Jenkins-Arno, R-Rollin Township, has expressed her support for a plan to increase public safety funding across Michigan. This initiative, known as the Public Safety Trust Fund plan, was recently passed by the House and proposes to allocate $115 million statewide to enhance safety measures.

Jenkins-Arno emphasized the importance of this funding, stating, "This is about making sure every Michigan resident feels safe in their neighborhood — not just today, but for years to come." She highlighted the dual benefits of addressing immediate safety concerns while establishing a foundation for stronger communities: "When people feel protected, they feel empowered, and that’s when communities truly thrive."

The proposed plan aims to provide financial support for local safety grants and violence prevention programs. It is intended to assist communities by enabling investments in advanced technology, expanded officer training, and community policing strategies.

Jenkins-Arno also addressed challenges faced by police departments, particularly in recruitment and retention. "This funding gives departments the stability and resources they need to attract the best officers, keep them well-trained, and ensure they have what they need to serve with confidence and compassion. It’s an investment in peace of mind, and in the future of Michigan families," she explained.
