Nancy Jenkins, Michigan State Representative for 34th District | Michigan House Republicans
State Representative Nancy Jenkins-Arno, a Republican from Rollin Township, cast her vote on Wednesday in favor of a legislative package designed to return zoning and permitting power for large-scale solar and wind energy initiatives to local communities.
"These bills are about respecting local voices," remarked Representative Jenkins-Arno. "Decisions about where solar and wind farms should go need to be made by the people who live in those communities, not by bureaucrats in Lansing."
The legislation, comprising House Bills 4027 and 4028, successfully moved through the Michigan House on Wednesday. The bills aim to reverse elements of the state's 2023 clean energy regulations that previously allowed the Michigan Public Service Commission (MPSC) to supersede local authority on zoning decisions related to renewable energy projects.
"Renewable energy is an important part of Michigan's future, but that future must be built with local input and community support," Jenkins-Arno stated. "We can protect our environment and preserve local rights at the same time."
