State Representative Nancy Jenkins-Arno has commented on Michigan's updated revenue forecast following the May Consensus Revenue Estimating Conference (CREC). The conference, which occurs biannually in January and May, provides lawmakers with crucial economic and revenue forecasts that influence the state's budget planning. While the January forecast informs the governor's executive budget, the May forecast offers more precise data for final budget decisions.
Jenkins-Arno expressed concern over the decline in projected state revenue. "Today’s updated revenue forecast is a stark reminder of the need for careful, thoughtful budgeting," she stated. She emphasized the importance of prioritizing Michigan's families and communities to ensure effective use of funds. "It’s concerning that the Senate has already pushed forward with budget plans without fully understanding the revenue we can expect," she added.
As chair of the LEO subcommittee, Jenkins-Arno is committed to supporting workers and businesses while maintaining fiscal responsibility. She highlighted the necessity of developing solutions that bolster economic growth and workforce support without depleting state resources.
