Senator Mark Huizenga of Walker, Michigan, has expressed his support for recent legislative changes to the state's Sex Offenders Registration Act. This comes in response to court decisions that have rendered parts of the current law unenforceable.

Huizenga stated, "Keeping our communities safe, especially our kids and our most vulnerable, must always be a top priority. I supported this measure because families deserve access to information that helps them protect themselves and their loved ones."

The senator emphasized the importance of accountability within the system, adding, "This important change would ensure that victims of these horrific crimes are not further traumatized by a system that lets offenders disappear from accountability. It is a step toward helping survivors heal and live their lives once again."

According to Huizenga, without these amendments, over 30,000 individuals could potentially be removed from the registry with no obligation to register in the future.
