Today, U.S. Representative Tim Walberg, alongside fellow Michigan Congressmen John Moolenaar and Jack Bergman, introduced the Line 5 Act in a legislative effort to safeguard the Line 5 pipeline in Michigan from potential future shutdowns by presidential administrations.
“Michiganders rely on Line 5 for a safe, secure, and reliable supply of energy to heat their homes and power our local economy,” stated Rep. Walberg. He emphasized the importance of preventing future presidents from closing this crucial pipeline: “Energy security is national security, and we must protect our critical energy infrastructure.”
Rep. Moolenaar expressed concerns over previous administrative attempts to close the pipeline: "Line 5 is a vital source of energy for Michigan families. Unfortunately, the previous administration did not recognize its value to our state and fought to shut down the pipeline with bureaucratic red tape." He noted that under President Trump's administration, efforts were made to keep Line 5 operational.
Rep. Bergman highlighted the broader implications of maintaining Line 5's operations: "Line 5 keeps energy affordable, supports thousands of Michigan jobs, and helps fuel our economy. This bill is about putting common sense and stability ahead of political agendas."
The significance of Line 5 extends beyond its role in providing propane for approximately 320,000 households in Michigan; it accounts for over half of the state's propane supply.
